Documentation

Welcome to the Firefly.NET documentation.  Firefly.NET allows you to edit your website, intranet or learning platform from within your web browser.  This documentation is for editing users.

Before you start

You're about to get started editing your site with Firefly!  Before you get started, make sure

  • you have been assigned modify permissions in an appropriate area of your site
  • you are logged in to the site

You can check that you are logged in by looking for the tools menu in the bottom right of the screen, it looks like this: Tools1.gif.  If you see the tools menu but not any editing tools when you roll over different areas of the page, check you have been assigned permissions to edit with your system administrator.

Some useful terminology

Getting familiar with pages, components and resources will help you get the most of the manual and help you get to grips with Firefly faster.

Pages

Each Firefly.NET site consists of a number of pages, grouped into sections having a common theme. The page provides the space where content is added, in one or more components.  Pages are just like web pages on any other website.

Components

The blocks of content that make up your pages are known as components.  You can place more than one component on each page and you can drag and drop components to change their order, and change the layout of the page to lay components out differently.

Resources

Within each section, you can also upload "resources", which are all the files that you would like to reference from your pages or simply store in the Firefly system.  For example, word documents, images and videos would all be considered resources within Firefly.  You can upload resources in several ways, as well as organising them into folders.  Just like pages, resources also live under the different sections in your site.

Let's get started
