Read/Write/Comment permissions
you can scroll through the list of groups displayed in these boxes to determine who should be able to read the page(s) and who should be able to write to (edit) them or to add comments. The default is set to "Inherit" which means that the settings of the parent page are applied to the child page(s).

Note that a user with write permission can always also read and comment, and can write to any child object, regardless of inheritance setting.

Multiple Groups
usually permissions are set to single groups but there are occasions when it's convenient to allow more then one group to have appropriate access. This can be done by selecting Advanced... in the dropdown box (at the top of the list) and click the ellipsis  to the right to bring up the Permissions Selector (see below) in which you can add the groups you require. For Read access only, it is also possible to deny read access to selected groups or individuals (see right hand screenshot below)

Moderated Write
this option allows a selected group to edit a page but not publish it until authorisation is given by the section administrating group(s). This might be used by, for example, a webmaster allowing another party to update a page on the website which only gets published after the webmaster has approved it.

Users with this permission (but not full write permission) may modify pages, but no changes will be visible to those without moderated or full write access (ie public) without someone with full write access accepting the changes.

To approve changes made by users with moderated write permissions, just use the Make Public button on the page concerned.

Those with moderated write permissions are also able to create subpages of the page(s) on which they have this permission.  Such subpages will not be visible to normal users until they have been approved by a user with full write permissions.

Comment
this allows the page administrator to control which groups of users or which individual users can leave a comment on the page. NB The default setting for unauthenticate users is not to have the Comment facility.

Note that page authors may modify or delete comments. A message appears in the comment window if the text is modified by the page author:-

Moderated Comment
similar to Comment, except that the comment may only made public when the page administrator has approved it (as for Moderated Write - see above).

Note also that RSS feeds are available for comments.
