Hosting

You can choose between having us host your Firefly.NET installation or hosting it within your organisation.

Choosing the right hosting option

The hosted option is ideal for smaller organisations who do not want to maintain a webserver or always-on connection to the internet.  We take care of the servers and the internet connection and keep Firefly.NET up to date.  However, you cannot connect to your internal services, such as the Active Directory (for username/password integration), Exchange (calendar integration) or school databases (database integration).  Performance will also be slower from within school, so for a learning platform/intranet, it will probably make sense to host internally.

Our hosting platform

Our hosting platform is the very same one we use to run our own website.  Our dedicated servers sit in a purpose built datacentre in Maidenhead.  We also back up your data offsite so it could be restored elsewhere in the unlikely event of losing the entire datacentre.  The datacentre itself has redundant power so it can survive mains failure and a highly secure environment.
